Welo Opal, 6.63 cts. 17 × 7.7 mm, Rectangular Cushion

A 6.63ct natural Welo opal from Ethiopia, faceted in a step-cut rectangular cushion. Translucent near-colorless body with a sweeping play-of-color — broad flashes of blue, purple, and green roll across the crown as the stone tilts. The step-cut faceting adds clean architectural lines that frame the color beautifully. Photos and videos don't capture the full effect; this one needs to be seen in person. It has an almost ethereal blue-purple glow.

Welo opals are hydrophane, meaning they have a very porous structure and can absorb water and other liquids, which makes them unsuitable for everyday jewelry wear. This is a collector's stone — best appreciated as a specimen or display piece.
